Ammo Situation Getting Better?

In my little neck of the woods things seem to be getting slightly better. The tap was entirely off for a few months and now it seems to be at a trickle. In the last week or so I have gotten pistol ammo at Wallyworld twice. First it was a box of .38 ammo and today it was a box of 9mm JHP. Today they also had .357mag JHP's, .45 ball, .223 at a good price, a couple mags of 7.62x39, .308 and 30.06. The usual variety of shotgun ammo of course, did not check on .22lr.

I would like to pick up some more 9mm and .38 special ammo in the near future. Nothing huge, just a couple boxes of .38 and 200rds or so of 9mm. Got enough cash to get it now but don't need it bad enough to go someplace except Wallyworld and pay far higher prices. Think I will start going to Wallyworld an extra time a week or two right about when the truck gets unloaded.

How are things in your neck of the woods?

Ammo is still like hens teeth up here. I visit Walmart in three counties and none of them have any of the most common ammo at all.

Please don't publish my comment..that Senate Bill's misrepresented and it's not true.
Just got notification (not sure I believe it, but..)
Great, first comment here and I comment a lie. I'm sorry!

I honestly have been having any issues getting ammo...more expensive for sure but I can get it.

I picked up the last 3 boxes of 9mm FMJ at my local midwest WM yesterday. It wasn't the point of my trip, so was a nice surprise. The clerk told me she was under directions to limit all ammo purchases to 2 (50 rnd) boxes per transaction, so sold me the last box as a separate buy. They had 40, 45, 38 in stock as almost always, but this was first 9mm I'd seen there in months.

Ditto The Hermit up here in the Northwest. The stickler is that once in a great while WalMart (and others) will get in a small supply of ammo and sell it at very low prices, which feeds our hope that things will get better. Oh, and as long as we are in WalMart, we buy a few other things we need. It is called a "loss leader" friends, and works like a charm.

Hermit, Maybe my expectations have gotten so low that anything is an improvement.

Z, No worries.

Flea, That is a fair assessment of the situation these days. I don't need it bad enough to go to a gun shop and pay 30% more then wallyworld charges.

Ajh, I regularly end up there because it is where we do our grocery shopping and check the ammo shelves every time. Ours limits it at 6 boxes I think now. Unless it is 5 rd boxes of buckshot I am not buying that much ammo at a time these days. Too darn expensive.

Sam, That could be. I've heard rumors of their contracts readjusting upwards. I think that other ammo places are (I assume) paying more is probably a factor in walmarts empty shelves because they are getting less and also people are snapping up whatever they get because it is real cheap.

Checked WallyWorld on Friday, they had 2 boxes of 30-06, NO BOXES of .22lr, .308, 38SPL, 9mm. They have a lot of 12GA 7 1/2, and a few boxes of buckshot. I check every time I am in the store. I have a excellent supply of ammo, although I really would like to increase my .308 by another 700 rnds!

Finally finished packing my bug-out-bag, although I am still deciding if I want to pack a spare 9mm. My everyday carry is a .22lr Beretta Bobcat, it is small enough to wear on my belt or put in my dress suitcoat pocket, or in my ankle holster.

Brian, I would suggest having the 9mm close at hand. Having it in your BOB with a holster, a couple spare mags in a pouch and a 50rd box of ammo would be wise. If things get screwy you might think differently about having the relative bulk of the bigger gun on your waistline.

Here in the Peoples Socialist Republic of Wisconsin, wally world had some calibers in stock on Friday. Shotgun shells seem to be plentiful, but 22 and centerfire seem to be in short supply. The dudes in the department were raving about how much they got in the recent shipment..

More availability, but more 'Valid ID Required' notes too - that isn't good.

Still very scarce here in CA. If they have anything, it is only 1 or 2 boxes.

I was on Sportsmansguide.com and they have ammo listed, but with delivery dates out as far as November! I think their earliest dates were in July.

The only online stuff available is the high-end match grade or home defense stuff. No range ammo.

If the issue were strictly economics, it would be available, just at higher prices.

Old Furt, Interesting.

8:45, Lots of places require ID as proof of age. If they are making a copy of the ID or entering DL number into the computer that is real bad jui jui.

TOM, I noticed that over at your place. Around here it is economics because ammo is available at other places with higher prices. Don't have a clue what is going on in your neck of the woods.

Glad you bought a bunch at that gun show.

Not any better down here.....

little at WM, plenty at gun show but prices up a little...

Mayberry, Interesting to hear that. Is that wallyworld or gun shops also?

B3n, Seems more or less like the situation here.

Everywhere.....

TOR, you are right, although I am not going to put my 9mm Beretta in my BOB. I picked up, a year ago, a nice inexpensive 9mm "STAR" BKM (Star Bonifacio Echeverria, S.A.), I guess it is either that or my 38 Det. Special. (no spares with a revolver though) Thanks!

Greetings from Southern New England! Came across your blog by way of MKORION.

Local Wal-Marts in his region are still in short supply of pistol and rifle ammo. Shotgun ammo remains available.

Plenty of milsurp ammo in quantity at the last gun show. Prices there have been holding steady for the past couple months now.

Brian, Either of those would be good options. I have a suspicion you shoot better with the Star 9mm then the snubby .38 (just about anyone would) which should factor into your decision making.

TFNE-Tom, Hi. Interesting.
