I love media terminology.

"Shooting kills X number of people."

"Killing spree leaves X dead."

"Gun violence on the rise."

They speak about these actions as though they are autonomous, spontaneously occurring entities, like tornadoes. I think there's kind of a cultural illness behind this terminological phenomenon: a cultural sickness in which the individuals in a society hate to admit the existence of culpability and responsibility on the part of individual human beings.

Those darn shootings. Always killing people. Always leaving people dead. We need to pass more laws so shootings can never occur. Maybe tornadoes, too.

But aren't guns pretty much illegal in Mexico?

Why don't they make unjustified homicide illegal in Mexico?

Up here in Canada we have insanely strict gun control laws - meanwhile the drug gangs shoot each other and innocent bystanders with unregistered black market guns. Sure glad the old federal lieberal government saw fit to crack down on gun control over the 80's and 90's... it makes such a difference!

Anyways - gun control needs to stop. Government and concerned anti-gun groups should focus on crime and other problems rather than law abiding gun owners.
