What Did You Do To Prepare This Week?

This is fun because it is sort of a combination of reviewing my week and giving you all a bit of a gut check to see if you did anything this week. Of course every week may not have monumental progress but if no weeks have progress you probably aren't headed on the right path.

This week I learned from Wifey to make french toast that tasted like french toast as opposed to egg sopped bread. We also put a few more bucks in the emergency fund to get it to a nice easy to remember round number. Today at Walmart I hit the frickin jackpot for 9mm ammo. Bought two 100rd boxes of JHP's for $23 a piece. Also for four 50rd boxes of 9mm ball ammo for $10. Didn't buy them out either (well I got all the JHP) as they had 8 or so boxes of 50 rd 9mm ball. Interestingly enough they seemed to have gotten the first real delivery of pistol ammo I can recall. At least 300rds of .38 special, and a reasonable amount of .40 S&W and some .45ACP to boot. Now I am done buying 9mm for the time being having reached a nice round number which makes me comfortable.

In any case hope you all did something to prepare this week.

Last week I finally got rid of my old '99 Chevy Blazer (264,000+ miles on the beast), bought a used '03 Jeep Liberty 4x4 with 78k on it. It's a manual transmission, so got a good deal and has excellent service records. (This will be a much better BOV, and more dependable.)

Just ordered a Pitcher hand pump for the old dug well I have just outside the back door. This well has not been used in years, will need to have the water checked after I flush the well in a few days. Pump has been shipped, guess that will be next weekend's project.

Will again take inventory of food, ammo again tonight, have 9 months worth of food, and nearly a lifetime of ammo. I am looking at buying some more silver again, as I have been working for the past few months on gold.

I also have been considering purchasing $1k in Canadian bills. Still thinking about this one.

I read your blog frequently but this is my first comment. This week I datechecked all my canned and dried food, calculated how much exactly I had on hand and stored it again in a more compact and out of the way fashion. Couldn't really buy anything b/c of monetary concerns but that changes next month when I get my bonus from work. Springfield xd time then.

Inventoried stocks of ammo

Started work on a spreadsheet inventory template to help keep track of expiration dates and quantities

Reloaded some test batches of ammo

Had a planning session for what I want to accomplish over the next 90 days.

It was a productive week all in all.

I bought a shelf reliance system so I can clean out my pantry and get my food storage organized. I also learned I can't live without my kids for long. It's going to be a long summer.

I still haven't seen any common ammo on the shelves here in CA. A buddy who has a Walmart that still sells ammo said he saw some last week, so maybe the supplies are starting to come back.

If they don't get better, I'll be making another run to the Reno gun show in August to pick up a few thousand more rounds.

Got all my 'loose'/unsecured ammo locked up tight in ammo cans and locked saecure in the attic.

Not a big accomplishment, but I've been needing to get it done.

BTW brothers, tonight silver is at a VERY TEMPORARY LOW PRICE.

Under 14$ an ounce. This WILL NOT LAST. Convert your dollars to real money at this rare opportunity. New unemployment figures (to be released very soon) will surely send it higher.

Commander Zero.....OMG. I wish I was at that level of preparedness.

I went to a decent sized gun show and saw a lot of desperate gun vendors. The people selling snacks were doing great!

Seriously I wish i was in a position to buy another gun. Everyone seems to have over-ordered during this last winter's mania and now some are choking on it.

Found a great brand of dehydrated hash brown potatoes at Costco with a shelf life of about one year from Penguin Natural Foods. Minimal preparation and cooking time needed. If someone had told me that I'd be happy about finding yummy dehydrated potatoes 2 years ago I would have laughed. Well, I'm not laughing now. Next time I go to Costco I'm stocking up on these has browns.

Harvested and canned 6 pints of green beans, 12 pints of strawberry preserves, 6 pints of dill pickels, made and canned 4 quarts of chili, got the commo in the 4x4 up and running, added to the cash reserves, picked up another 500rds of .45ACP.

Purchased another 6 dozen canning jars at the bargain price of .20 per jar! Also, got the emergency gear in the wife's vehicle organized.

Still a long way to go, but we just keep workin' at it!

Cleaned my guns, picked up some .223 and a box of .22 winmag, put together my new gun vise, cleared the area for where the cabin is going to set when delivered, did a bunch of research on energy storage in batteries. Been busy.

I'd like to learn how to make decent French toast! Maybe your wife could write out her recipe and directions.
