Wish List Update

My wish list has been noted for the record.

I have done some thinking and need up update it some.

First of all the spare Glock 19 is off the list. Always good to take something off the list and put it into the closet. Marking something off the list is always a little victory. Though 4 more would be good;)

Second of all I think the S&W model 19 is going to get bumped. Not that I wouldn't like to find one at some point but it is getting significantly downgraded in priority. It is slipping into the arena where if I happen to have some spare cash, see one lying around and don't need anything else I would get it. This puts it with just about any nice old 1911, P-38, Luger, Winchester 30-30 or a broad variety of other guns.

A .357 magnum with a real durable finish would be useful while one with a blued finish would be another thing to clean 2x a year and maybe take to the range once. Honestly I need another blued revolver like a fish needs a bicycle (said that to a girl once, funny story for another time). I will probably pick up a new stainless .357. Wish I could find a mate to my Taurus model 66 6" in the stainless finish. Mine is the older (?) one with the half lug barrel. The thought crossed my mind for a second to get my blued Taurus done in electrolytes nicklel but it looks so perfect as is that I would rather purchase a new gun then mess with it. Honestly this revolver is probably the most ergonomically desirable pistol I have handled. I would probably take a pair of pliers to my pinky finger nail to find a stainless one.

Those are the two changes to the wish list.

Thoughts?

S&W model 27 is what the FBI packed, good old classic .357MAG. I want one myself. A 686 would be almost as good, but that is just preferences. I should invest more into the .357MAG. Practically speaking though another Glock 17 or Baby Eagle .40S&W would be the bees knees for me.

Wyn, Don't get my wrong I would love a few nice classic .357's. It is just a question of what I will actually use and what will live in the safe. A stainless 686 would earn its money with me be it in a glove box, a pack or a holster.

For me I am already pretty vested in .38/.357 and it would be hard to weigh that against a Glock 19 or a 1911.

At the end of the day I think a stainless .357 would get lots of work from me.

A stainless .357 is a great gun. I like Smiths but I lean towards Ruger for sheer durability. However, I have quite a soft spot for the S&W 681. To my thinking, it was an almost ideal combat .357...full underlug to protect the ejector rod, fixed sights for durability, stainless construction for longevity..a nice piece.

The S&W 19 is nice but you'll notice Smith doesnt offer them any more...the k-frame size .357's just dont handle a steady diet of .357 ammo like their larger L- and N-frame cousins.

Im actually in the market for a couple GP100's. While my first choice is for a S&W 681, I'll take the GP100 since its more readily found and , in my opinion, takes the rugged abuse of a post-apocalyptic workd better than the Smith.

A stainless GP100 with 4" barrel gets carried in a belt holster every time I go into the woods. Especially when bow hunting. Especially with mountain lion sitings on the increase here. 180 gr Federal hard cast bullets X 1200 fps.

The cougar probably wins any violent encounter on his turf. I just enjoyed having a really fine excuse to buy that pistol and am philosophically opposed to making lunch easy for any predator.

Commander Zero, Great points all around. That I could cruise into any gun shop and pick up a GP 100 is a real plus. Also finding one at a gun show could be realistic which is a big plus. Shot a GP 100 awhile back and liked it. Hard to beat big heavy stainless revolvers.

Magwa, Any excuse to pick up a new gun is a good one. Nice choice.

Never heard of having a gun electroless nickled..Who ever do's it better be experienced with gun's,as it add's a few thousandth's of an inch to everything. And should it get nicked,it tend's to peel off, like cheap chrome on a bumper.

Dean in AZ, I got the idea from the robar site so I imagine it is pretty legit.

The only thing really left on my wish list is an MP-40. I'm giving it thought.
