A Friends Take on Israeli US Relations and the Arab World

My friend says lots of stupid shit but this was IMO genius, enough so that I remember it distinctly years later.

My friend said more of less "Israel is like that yoked (very, very strong) little brother. You can't say you like that he sometimes gets in fights and completely beats peoples asses but you really like it a lot."

It is the simplest analogy on US Israeli relations and the rest of the world that I have ever heard.

That does not make any sense at all!

What if they were not taking money from the U.S. and were thus free to kick ass without restrictions?

I just keep trying to figure out where the authority to give other countries "foreign aid" is written in our constitution. With that foreign aid, Israel is constrained to behave itself "or else". They (and we) might be better off without...(?)

the enemy of my enemy is my friend. Every time the Israelis kick some Islamic ass I rejoice. While I'm not very enthusiastic about providing computers to African villages that don't have power, I'd not sorry to see some of my tax money go to Israel to support the only true democracy in that part of the world, and our only real friend there.

Israel can go. Without my money.

I have no responsibility to fund their continued existence in particular. If a people cannot exist without receiving money systematically taken through force or threat of force, they have no right to exist.

The Brits carved up Israel, the same way it carved up Iraq and Kuwait. (Does anyone else find it odd that Kuwait is a tiny set of geographical lines carved out of the political entity known as Iraq, right on a major oil field, at a major harbor?) I wonder why the Brits did that?

Imperialist meddling causes more problems than it prevents. Politicians simply have no respect for the law of unintended consequences. Of course, why should they have any respect for it? They never suffer for it. Only the people they rule over suffer from the effects of their actions.
