As you may or may not have noticed I have been using foul language a lot less lately. Not like I have had some huge moral revelations or anything. I just sort of realized that instead of using foul language intentionally just like I would use any other words it has slipped into my everyday thoughts with too much frequency. Having a job where foul language is fairly acceptable doesn't help.
I sort of realized a month or so ago that I was using foul language the way some folks use like or hmmm. If I bang my foot on something in the darn or slip and fall on the darn ice the first word out of my mouth will probably start with an F which is just fine. However I do not need to wake up and tell myself that I F ing need to get an F ing cup of F ing coffee going right F ing now.
Anyway this self improvement seems to be going well. Not sure what my next one will be. I don't drink much any more (1-3 drinks a few times a week) so no real need to mess with that. Probably making the jump to really stick in a supplementary (to morning PT) exercise program. I am pretty happy with my weight these days. I could bust my butt and have a diet that is restrictive in terms of what I eat and how much then maybe I would weight 4-6 pounds less. Then again if I can eat (within reason) basically what I want and weigh a little bit more that is probably just fine. I would however like to do 10-15 more pushups and situps on the next PT test and be able to do a few more pullups and throw around a bit more weight at the gym. Running faster is never a bad thing either. Yeah I think I will try and work on that now.

Not swearing is very difficult for me. I've gotten into the habit of f-in' this and that.
Lately, it seems as though I've had a lot of female students in my gun classes, and I've cut back a lot. It might be old fashioned, but I try not to swear in front of the ladies!
I went through a similar epiphany back in the day....mine came when I caught myself splitting words and stuffing cursing in between...(e.g. in-f@*&%ing-credible).
Took me years to squelch the cussing back to acceptable levels. It is hard, but overall it is good to do. One never knows when one will be invited to eat the fucking queen you know.
The last year of my enlistment I worked hard on moving my speech from 'fluent gutter' to 'decent'. I'm glad I did so.
Let people get offended over what you say, not the words used to express it.
I agree with Chief and his comments about the ladies, but hey I still open doors for ladies and will as I don't buy into PC stuff.
Plus, there are a lot of survivalist that are family oriented, me being one. If in conversation you drop an F bomb in front of me, that's one thing. Do it in front of my wife or kids and we'll have some words.
I have a friend working fitting pipe on refinery construction. When I was in the US Navy, sailors didn't cuss like that. (We had officers to be gentile around since they are "gentlemen" by act of Congress. Not that that was any more effective than much of what Congress does.)
And it is contagious. The language we use affects those around us.
I find "silly" a useful alternative to the F word. It fills a similar niche in language. Although I haven't caught myself doing the in-silly-credible thing.
When I stub my toe, "la" as in do-re-mi-fa-so-la-ti-do (remember the ditty from Sound of Music? La! a note to follow So!) can be as expressive as any cuss word, and doesn't increase the likelihood of a following cuss word or three.
I have never had to re-think saying "la". And seldom has it been misunderstood.
Scrol down to what this editor says about swearing. Just something I found cruising the net.
