Good For Them!

On one hand, seems potentially positive -- at least they are doing SOMETHING! On the other hand, I'm concerned about the "papers, please" aspect. Does this mean that non-white Arizonians must always carry photo ID with them when they walk around outside their houses?

The reason illegals come is because they can get better compensation (including pay, free public services, etc) here than they can at home. The reason businesses like them is because hiring a legal worker is so expensive (minimum wage + payroll taxes).

Seems to me that you could avoid the civil liberties issues by cutting off access to free public services and lowering the minimum wage and payroll taxes.

In any event it looks like a good case of federalism in action. Arizona can be a laboratory for this tactic and we'll see how it works out. That is the great thing about letting each state try different solutions rather than imposing a one-size-fits-all solution without much testing.
