Tell me about it. I'm typing this from a city (McAllen) about 10 miles away from Reynosa, Mexico, where IEDs from drug cartels are being found - really gives you perspective on wondering when they will be found on OUR side. The violence is spilling over, the cartel violence I mean - all kinds of crazy things that were unheard of are in local news.
My wife and I crossed over to Progresso yesterday for meds that are available which require prescription on our side. It was really quiet. Mexican Federales with machine guns near the border crossing - people were all downright polite you can say.
What disturbs me most is I never knew there was a "privately owned" prison in that sleepy little town, which happens to be right in the middle of my bug-out-route to my in-laws in the country. I will nonetheless devise a new route which will bypass the area if SHTF. Just a good reminder to find out if any quietly opened prisons lie near your intended routes.

That craziness is because of all the money in the US recreational drug trade. Billions and billions on both side of the drug trade.
The sad part is we could end this next week if we wanted to, just take the obscene profit out of it.
We won't, there is too much money on both sides of the recreational drug trade for any American politician to end prohibition again.
Inmate takeover:
