“A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.” — Robert A. Heinlein

Land Buddy

There is a free service on Off-grid.net called LandBuddy that connects you with people who are looking to live off grid, people who are currently living off grid and people who want to help others live off grid.

LandBuddy contains a map that allows you to locate other off gridders in any geographic location. Current off-gridders can find and connect with fellow off grid neighbors. If you are thinking about living off grid, this is the perfect place to look for advice and resources from people who are already living off grid.

All you have to do is register on LandBuddy and specify where you are located. Hundreds of Americans have already registered and found land they could either buy or live on off grid land in return for work. Living off the grid, away from the grid of power and water, is a rising phenomenon in America because technology is making it steadily more comfortable and cheaper.

Off-Grid.net is the brainchild of Nick Rosen, whose new book OFF THE GRID, recently published. The book focuses on a range of individuals like millionaires and foreclosure victims, paranoid survivalists and saintly environmentalists and retirees and marijuana growers who are all chasing their off-grid dreams.

TOR adds: I believe we will be giving away a free copy of this book soon.

Found this in a search relating to something else entirely. I don't know much about it - but I thought it might be info worth having for those who frequent this site.

Here's more. As the date shows, it apparently occurred prior to the previous linked event...

http://www.thecompletepatient.com/journal/2009/1/8/the-strange-case-of-a-ca-goat-farmers-arrest-and-jailing-sha.html

This is relatively local for me - hence the immediate interest. However, the initial search was triggered by an comment discussing food control by the Soviets. Forewarned, etc.

Last one. I'm done for now.

This particular site reports on some interesting governmental rules, regs and actions. All of which should be of some interest, even if you don't consider yourself a farmer.

Most of us are pretty separated from our food source, and welcome government's actions to keep those sources safe. The question is - what limits on the government are necessary to ensure freedom.

I'm the owner of SurvivingTheDayAfter@yahoogroups.com, a group of hardcore survivalists who believe preparing for the worst case scenario, nuclear war destruction of the US,
prepares us to meet any lesser calamity with relative ease.

I am tired of seeing 'philanthropic' organizations here in the US raising funds and exporting our off grid technology to people outside the US. We have plenty of
deserving families here in the US for off grid technology.

To that end, and because I am coming into an independent income
source I never had previously, I am building a 'factory' in West Texas to turn out off grid farm
home packages, complete with two level steel 36 X 60 Quonset building that is buried and bermed about so as to be impervious to earthquakes, tornadoes, floods, wildfire, and even small arms fire.

I am targeting retired couples with more than enough available
capital to pay $100,000 for the
quonset farm house (4200 square feet of living space) set on 20 acres of West Texas farm land,
with solar powered
irrigation pumping system, off grid
solar panel system for the farm house, installed septic system, and installed water well.

I am trying to restore the family
vegetable/small animal meat producing farm to America.

We will have a website up in March
with videos of the steel quonset building kits and a demo installed on a farm for sale. In June we will begin shipping the quonset building kits.

Retired families can then gather three generations of their family together, pay cash for the farm and its improvements, and operate as a family farm....then hand it down MORTGAGE FREE to their children and in turn to their grand children. We are calling the project THE WALTONS PROJECT.
