Homework Assignment for the Week

Buy an ounce of silver. If you genuinely can't afford to pay $20 or whatever the current cost in your area is then think hard about your life and finances.

I can do that but it is not in my cards at the moment. I have other plans in the works, personal relationship stuff; so, am I off the assignment?

I think I'll spend that $20 on canned food or Mason jars for canning. Can't eat silver...

Excellent advice. The Gold:Silver ratio is getting tighter. A little over a week ago it was 68:1. At the end of last week it was just under 65:1, today it ended at 64.3:1.

The value, thus price, of silver is increasing faster than that of gold.

BTW, the average ratio for the 20th century was 47:1.

Where do you buy silver? Do you take delivery or is it stored?

The point isn't that silver is superior to food or ammo. I think it is that if you can't pull $20 out of your ass ( and I know most of you are Yuppie Scum making big government bucks ), you are in sorry shape for when the economy gets much worse-which it will. I'm prepping on far less income than most. It is will and priorities. Plus, I got my silver at $7 an ounce- suckers!

Anon, look for a coin shop that sells them. You can find coins on ebay as well, but people have been pushing the prices up for the past few months - really getting caught up in a frenzy.

Get educated on American Silver Eagles, Silver rounds and 90% (also called "junk") silver, then buy some.

ONLY buy silver or gold you'll be taking possession of.

I'm actually a tad ahead of your assignment curve. Last week, I finally got around to placing an order with APMEX and USPS attempted to deliver today. Of course I am out of town this week, but have been watching the order and the shipping tracking number closely. Have to say that so far I'm impressed with the service but reserving final comment until I get my grubby little hands on it and verify contents. Thanks very much for the advice to work with those folks that was on your blog a while back.

Did this. Found an American Eagle on eBay for less than current melt value, including shipping! Arrived today, nice and shiny.

I had good luck at Bullion Direct.

I buy the plain 1 oz. bullion rounds. Delivery was pretty reliable. Recommend against letting anyone else store your PM.
