Well it is Turkey Day. This is the second time I have spent Thanksgiving in a war zone. The first was a lot easier, maybe in part because of the rose colored glasses of time but mostly because missing my wife and kid is very different from the rents, siblings, extended family and friends.It was as good of a day as it could be. The dining hall did a bang up job. They had everything I wanted and it was all great. Things were pretty quiet and I got to do some reading which was nice.
I have been thinking about what I am thankful for. I am thankful that we aren't worried about keeping a roof over our heads, buying groceries and other basic things. I am thankful that we are able to have Wifey stay at home with Walker. I am also thankful that they are home with family. She gets a bit of help with kiddo when she needs it and if anything happens I know they are in the best place they can be. That is a huge thing off my mind while I am over here. I am also thankful for preparedness books in kindle format, gymnastics rings, bumper plates, crocks, lightweight boots that you can run in, one point adjustable slings, pmag's and my snuggie. Yes, you heard that right I have a snuggie in Afghanistan and it is great.
Well I hope that everyone has a great Thanksgiving. Enjoy great food and drink and time with family. Who knows what can happen by this time next year.

Nothing to be ashamed about having a snuggie. It was the second thing they told me to buy after a extra large ruck. It served me well while in service and has since then.
Happy Thanksgiving Ryan. I have responded to your post a few times. (I tend to read more than post.) You have a different perspective than most and I appreciate your point of view.
Part of my Thanksgiving prayer was for all the servicemen and women, at home or abroad. (I am a Nam-era vet but never missed a holiday with family.)
Happy to hear wifey is with family and not stuck on some far away post. Happy to hear Your meal was good. Not too sure about the "snuggie" but I guess if you like it, that's all that matters.
Got sidetracked and lost my train of thought. sorry.

Maybe you should post about what a snuggie is. From my history it was just a poncho liner, which happens to be one of the warmest, lightest blankets I've ever had. I'm assuming you were talking about the same thing. For me it was the epitome of all the things a good blanket should be. It was very soft, warms up very rapidly, lightweight and doesn't seem to accumulate dirt like most blankets do.
I am thankful for many things but the one I want to mention is that I am thankful for your service to our country. Thank you!
@ DesertRatJak, The snuggie is perfect for reading or whatnot in a cold room which is something I do a lot these days. The comfort of a blanket but sleeves for my arms so I can do stuff like hold a book or get a drink of water.
@ phreaknik, Negative. That is a woobie. A snuggie is a blanket with sleeves and sometimes pockets which is regularly advertised on television and can be purchased over the phone and in select retailers.

ahh, something seemed wrong about the snuggie definition. guess that's what I get for drinking and blogging. I'm not opposed to snuggies, just have no experience with them. But I sure as hell love my woobie.
@Phreaknik, No worries at all. Been there and done that. Don't worry, I will do a gear review on the snuggie at some point.
