I got some trigger time which was cool. Stumbled into a bunch of camping gear which is pretty awesome. Also I read Max Velocities book Contact: A Tactical Manual for Post Collapse Survival as well as the new Jim Rawles fiction book Founders. Picked up some interesting ideas from both.
Also while moving stuff I did some informal ammo inventories. On the plus side we have more 7.62x39 and shotgun shells than I thought. On the downside we have only about 150 rounds of .357 magnum ammunition. It is not totally critical as we have a decent stash of .38 special but I would like to get the most out of those big revolvers. In any case that will have to be remedied in short order. A few more bricks of .22 and some small game loads for the 12 gauge would be nice though they aren't critical. Heck 2 more cases of each caliber we stock would be great but unfortunately resources are finite.
Anyway what have you been up to this week?

I spent Saturday planting a portion of my fall garden....green beans, snow peas, and collards so far. Sealed up my order of green coffee beans into mylar bags with O2 absorbers. Also sealed up more pasta and beans. Received in my order of "fish" and "bird" antibiotics. Found a local source for calcium hypochlorite to purify water. Will buy 100 pounds of that this week (more than I need, but for the price, I figure it could be a barter item!)
Question: When you stockpile ammo, is it mostly wally-world, range stuff?
I'll confess, when I first appreciated the need to build up a supply, I basically stocked it with whatever I could find (in my calibers). Tons of bird shot for the 12 guages, and tons of .38 & 9mm 'white box', etc.
But that isn't really what I should have been thinking about.
If I'm stockpiling for WTSHTF, I need to have the ammo I intend to defend lives with, not range junk. Yeah, "it's better than nothing", but frankly, I think that was wasted prepping dollars; not only is the money gone, but I also don't have the critical resource I was looking for in the first place. I'd rather have one-tenth the number of rounds in Hornady critical defense or Corbon PD.
Damn. Mulligan.

Just received 2 20 round boxes of barnes vor-tex 168 grain 308 all copper cartridges.I will hopefully harvest a mature bull elk with 1. Iff so I will have a freezer full of some amazing meat ,and some jerky. Wish me luck. thnx for the read
Shucks Snoo-Diggity-DANG-Dawg, dead is dead, the bullet just lets out the blood and air out of a body to kill it, fancy performing bullets ain't going to make it more lethal (lethaler ? You know what I mean). If you want that plain lead to open up quicker when hitting flesh, a hacksawed 'cross' on bullet meplat will help in that regard.
