Liberal/ MSM Stupidity: Womens Rights in Afghanistan

Afghan lawmakers block law on women's rights

This article has been in the yahoo news you see when  checking your email for a few days. Honestly it baffles me. Clearly the person who wrote has either never been to Afghanistan or has been brainwashed and is borderline mentally retarded. 

 Women's rights in Afghanistan isn't going to happen. My odds out lifting Jim Wendler in the morning, beating George St Pierre in an MMA match before lunch, out shooting Gerry Miculek in the afternoon then making a better dinner than Rachel Ray are higher than the odds of women in rural Afghanistan having anything that resembled rights or freedom.  It's just not going to happen.

 Major cities may differ slightly, and are historically more western/ liberal, however in the majority of Afghanistan women have no rights and are essentially properly. Women can be raped, beaten, killed, sold or married (same difference in that culture) as the male head of the family wants with no repercussions. That is the culture and it is not going to change.  I do not say that happily but it is absolutely true. Changing rural Afghanistan, and do not be confused the majority of the population, as well as the real axis of power in Afghanistan is rural, is next to impossible. The Soviets tried for 20 years, spending untold billions and killing millions of people. If there is a way to more brutally attack a way of life than the Ruskies did in Afghanistan I don't know what it would be. Heck, We've been there for more than a decade trying the soft and nice approach. The Afghan and in particular Pastun culture is not going to change. 

 Without getting further into Islam or Afghanistan lets get back to what this article shows us. Liberals seem to believe they are capable of imposing their beliefs on anyone. They seem to believe they know what is right for everyone, everywhere. They are confused when their agenda's simply do not appeal to people. They are even more confused when legal statutes and the implicit threat of force fails to make people comply. The idea that people are willing to ignore laws, face risk or ultimately fight/ die for their viewpoints is something they do not understand.

Ryan here: Based on my anecdotal observation of how people have/ can be portrayed as well as obvious OPSEC/ PERSEC concerns I would have a hard time recommending this sort of thing to others. Occupy This, The Future, Family

This whole "Occupy" movement may have something too it. [Honestly my first inclination of seeing peacable protesters is that they are hippy idiots and if they break the law then are then rioters and should be treated as such. Not saying it is right or wrong, just my base instincts on the whole protesting thing.] It is so easy for the media to skew things, at least for awhile, should they want to. More and more folks who are a part of this movement are coming out complaining about corruption, crony capitalism, the federal reserve and elected officials bringing this mess on. Over the next few weeks if this thing gathers momentum and gets a cohesive message I will be able to evaluate it further.

A couple folks have recently said somethin gto the effect of " if somebody doesn't do something nothing will change for the better".  I don't see us magically pulling out of this or some sort of fantasy small government awakening happening. To be honest I don't see things getting better, at least by any broad measure. The best case mid term scenario I see is that we somehow manage to (likely through modest inflation, some spending cuts and some tax/ fee increases) kick the can down the road a decade. I genuinely hope that I am wrong but it will take new information to convice me that is the case.

I have been able to catch up with a lot of family and friends since I have been back. That has been great. Modern communications are far better than even 10-15 years ago but I am just not one to sit on the telephone or chatting for a long time. I get distracted and stuff. Sitting down for a cup of coffee or a meal at the kitchen table or drinks in the family room makes for a much better venue. Obviously it is nice to see everybody. The reason I am mentioning this is not to say that I saw friends and family and it was nice.

I can't say if it is my great example, positive modeling, my peer group getting real jobs (hard to prep at minimum wage) and just growing up or what but people are getting prepared. They are stashing cash as well as storing food and ammo. Those who do not own guns are planning to get them. I found myself answering some questions but positively folks were already on the right path (though possibly due to previous conversations we have had) which was great news. I do everything I can to advise, assist and encourage their efforts.

The phrase "May you live in interesting times" comes to mind.

Erin Andrews

To start with, I haven't seen this newest celeb tape... And I don't plan on going out of my way to watch it. To be blunt, I don't really care. However, this is typical of a society which takes its celebrity way, way, way to obsessively.

I don't watch ESPN. I didn't know who Erin Andrews is until this story came out. All I know now is that FoxNews has talked about it for almost a week. CNN wont shut up about objectifying women, and the damage this has done to her reputation (really, she didn't have anything to do with it, so it can't damage her reputation, and shit, I didn't know who she was before, so it has upped her in my book).

All in all, we need to leave each other alone. She's cute, but so are a lot of other people. But when stuff like this happens, its not the end of the world. Lets all take a big breath, and step back.
